Nick Spirrison, Secretary
Andrew Spirrison, Treasurer

Chapter was founded on June 30, 1929 in Indianapolis and had a total of 24 members.  The first president was Andrew Kostas.  Chapter sought to have the name of a famous Hoosier, and decided that James Whitcomb Riley, the famed poet and writer, was a natural choice.

Chapter meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month (except for months of July and August) at AHEPA 232-I Apartments, 7355 Shadeland Station Way. Apartments are located two blocks east of 75th and Shadeland. (turn south onto Shadeland Station Way, Apartment complex located approximately one block after entering Shadeland Station Way)

The chapter has the distinction of having the largest number (11) of its members who have served as District 12 Governors. Likewise, seven of our members have served as AHEPA Supreme Lodge Officers. Nick Smyrnis has the distinction of serving two terms as the Supreme President: 1979-1980 & 1980-81. Dr. Harry Torney, served in two Supreme Lodge offices: Supreme Governor and Supreme Secretary.

Currently, 11 of our 73 members are “Life” members.

Our Phase I Apartment was dedicated in April, 1985, Phase II in July, 1987, Phase III in May, 2005.  All of these projects were made possible by the dedicated efforts of the late Alex Kaloyanides, who served as the first president of the chapter’s housing corporation, AHEPA 232 Phase I, Inc.  formed in 1982. Both Brother Alex and his beloved wife, Sue died as a result of a car crash in 2002. In tribute and in memory of Brother Alex, our Housing Corporation named the Phase III social room as the “Alex Kaloyanides Community Room.”
